Terms of Service

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service govern your use of SolarBuildList (solarbuildlist.com), a free online tool for planning off-grid solar systems (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service is educational, not professional advice

SolarBuildList provides educational estimates about the compatibility of electrical components based on published manufacturer specifications. It is NOT electrical engineering advice, and no part of the Service creates a professional or advisory relationship. Compatibility checks are conservative estimates that can be wrong, incomplete, or based on outdated or incorrect specification data.

DC electrical systems can cause fire, serious injury, and death. Before purchasing components or building anything, you must verify every value against the manufacturer's current datasheet, comply with the National Electrical Code and your local codes and permitting requirements, and have your design reviewed by a licensed professional. You are solely responsible for anything you build.

3. Accuracy of catalog data

Component specifications, prices, and availability shown by the Service are collected from manufacturer and retailer materials and may be inaccurate or out of date. Components whose specifications have not been hand-verified against a manufacturer datasheet are labeled "specs unverified". Prices are estimates only. We make no promise that any information on the Service is accurate, complete, or current.

4. Saved builds are public

The Service lets you save a parts list as a build with a shareable link, without an account. Every saved build is public: anyone with the link can view and clone it. Do not include personal information, or anything unlawful, defamatory, or infringing, in build titles or other content you submit. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and distribute content you submit as part of operating the Service. We may remove any build at our discretion.

5. Affiliate links

Outbound links to merchants may be affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not influence compatibility results. Purchases are made from the merchant under the merchant's own terms; we are not a party to those transactions.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to interfere with the operation of the Service, attempt to gain unauthorized access to its systems or data, use automated tools to create builds or scrape the Service at a rate that burdens it, or use the Service to violate any law. We may block or rate-limit access that violates this section.

7. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and original content, is protected by intellectual property laws. Manufacturer and product names, trademarks, and datasheets belong to their respective owners; their appearance in the catalog does not imply endorsement of the Service.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY COMPATIBILITY RESULT IS CORRECT.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR ANY SYSTEM DESIGNED OR BUILT WITH ITS ASSISTANCE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, content you submit, or your violation of these terms.

11. Changes and termination

We may modify the Service, these terms, or discontinue the Service at any time. Material changes to these terms will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms. We may suspend or terminate access for any violation of these terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Colorado, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
